Fellowship of Saint Nicholas

Bonum Vitae Colentes

  • The Fellowship of Saint Nicholas (FOSN) is a two-year formation cohort aimed at cultivating the good life. This cohort will dive deep into a study of classical Christian education and integrating liturgical Christian spirituality into family life. Members of the cohort will meet once a month to discuss readings from the dangerous books list, be involved in lay responsibilities at their parish, and will have a quarterly reflection/application writing assignment.

FOSN will begin meeting once a month in August 2023.

    • Year One (August 2023-July 2024) will focus on aspects of classical Christian educational philosophy.

    • Year Two (August 2024-July 2025) will focus on readings and discussions on how to integrate liturgical Christian spirituality more into family life.

This fellowship is a two-year program ending in a certificate of completion. Attendance of a minimum of 20 (out of 24) FOSN discussions is required to receive the certificate. Generally the program will take two months to read through a dangerous book.

FOSN is a program of the Hawaii Anglican Network and led by the Program Director at Saint Benedict Hall. Additional HAN clergymen will be leading certain the book discussions.

While a Fellow of the FOSN, you will also be expected to be volunteering at your parish on a regular basis (weekly to biweekly): altar guild, childcare, leading a priory small group, playing music, baker guild, etc.

  • Saint Nicholas was a bishop in the 300s in what is today the country of Turkey. He was remembered for his love of children and his care of families in his diocese. The FOSN also desires to cultivate the community to be a people who deeply value and care about the education of our children and living the “good” life.

  • Anyone! While it will be targeted toward parents who attend an Anglican church on Oahu, it will be open to anyone interested from Saint Benedict Hall, or young adults and individuals from the broader community. As a rule we will ask all fellows to attend FOSN discussion nights in-person rather than on Zoom.

    • FOSN Fellows meet at Deacon Ben’s house at 6:30pm

    • Fellows bring a simple pupu to share: nuts, cookies, fruit, etc. Wine will be provided.

    • Open with prayer

    • Discussion overview of the reading from the past month, with discussion about application for our context led by a HAN clergyman.

    • Finish with the Office of Compline prayer at 8:30pm

  • $250. We are committed to keeping the costs to a minimum covering the books and some small admin fees. The cost for the entire two-year program will be $250 (can be paid all at once or $125 at the beginning of each August).
